I am teaching the course Computer Science 425: Database Systems during the Spring 1996 semester at Princeton University.

Research Interests

I work on very large database and parallel computing issues related to the massively parallel processing (MPP) databases. I am especially interested in large multimedia object storage/retrieval management issues, content-based spatial access methods, and multi-modal integration of abstract datatype algorithms. Teradata and Bell Labs is extending the Teradata database with multimedia capabilities that support both content-based analysis queries, along with multi-modal integration capabilities on MPP platforms.

Current Projects

High-Performance distributed object storage system that is effective with very large objects; project is codenamed Bell Labs Storage System (BeSS). BeSS is being used as the underlying object engine for Teradata's object-relational (multimedia) database. (User Guide); (Reference Manual); For info, send e-mail to bess@research.att.com
Multimedia database infrastructure capable of general content-based and multi-modal integration support on massivelly parallel platforms; This joint Teradata/Bell Labs project is codenamed Moonbase for the federated coordinator and Prospector for the object manager.
