Internet Auctions: Theory and Practice


Course Description:

The goal of this course is to connect theory, laboratory, and field experiments to real behavior in auctions. Basic results will be derived and tested, in class and by observing internet auctions. Topics include: independent private value auctions, revenue equivalence, optimal auctions, multiple-unit auctions, combinatorial auctions, the Vickrey-Clark-Grove mechanism, efficiency-revenue tradeoffs, results from the laboratory, field experiments, auction behavior models, agent-based simulation.
