11/7/97 You should have received email with your scores to date and your midterm letter grade.
Solutions to the midterm exam will be available from this page when ready.
Explanation of midterm grade calculation: The weights for final grades in the coures will be final exam 25%, midterm exam and prob. sets 12.5% each, labs 50% (see course front page). To calculate midterm grades, the midterm exam was weighted as the sum of the final and midterm exams will be weighted, i.e. 37.5%, to reflect the contribution from test performance. Two averages were used -- with lab extra credit and w/out. The basic letter grades were assigned w/out extra credit so that no one was penalized for not doing extra credit. Then, extra credit was used to improve the grades of those whose rankings went up significantly with it. Final grades will be calculated in similar fashion. Anyone with questions about his or her grade should email Professor LaPaugh.

11/7/97 Additional reading has been assigned for 11/10 (Efficiency and correctness): Section 11.5
