The BioMuse
system is a complete bioelectric controller system. All bioelectric signals
that can be measured from the surface of the skin can then be used to control the
computer. The system is composed of 8 instrumentation amplifier circuits (IA)
in order to measure 8 bioelectric
signals simultaneously. The amplified signal from the electrodes is then sent to a
programmable gain amplifier (PGA). The total gain is:

can be programmed from 1 to 100. Thus

.
The signal is then sampled at a rate of
. This signal is then processed by a
specialized digital signal processing microprocessor in order to filter the signal and
perform certain pattern recognition operations. This processed signal is then sent at
19.2kBaud to the computer using an optically isolated serial channel. The optical isolation
is important to protect the user from voltage spikes coming from the computer.
